Posada Rural La Escuela de Cicera is located in Cicera, a small village of stone houses, very well preserved and surrounded by an environment of great ecological and scenic value, the perfect spot to enjoy a few days of rest and discover first-hand the nature of Cantabria (northern Spain).
From our accommodation you can access the Picos de Europa National Park, in Cantabria, or the impressive Hermida Gorge, in the PeƱarrubia Valley; and we are only 30 minutes from the coast: PeƱarrubia and San Vicente de la Barquera villages.

In Cicera you will be able to visit the famous Santa Catalina Viewpoint, and here the Camino Lebaniego goes towards to Santo Toribio de LiƩbana. We are also inside the Saja-Nansa Ecomuseum area, which highlights the historical, artistic, ethnographic and cultural value of these towns and traditions.
Picos de Europa National Park
It is one of the oldest national parks in Spain, created from collapses and glaciations that formed a large mountain karst. The three main massifs of the Picos de Europa National Park run between valleys, gorges and several rivers that, in addition to the glaciers, keep on shaping the stones of the area.
The Picos de Europa National Parkās Visitor Centre that is the closest to Posada Rural La Escuela de Cicera is the Sotama Visitor Centre, in CillĆ³rigo de LiĆ©bana (Cantabria). It is an information point and it features permanent exhibitions about the origin of the Picos de Europa National Park, among other services.
The Picos de Europa National Park can also be visited through several hiking trails, and there are guided tours from July to September.
Caves of El Soplao and their geomining surroundings
The Caves of El Soplao were discovered by miners in 1908, and they consist on a cavity with a geological high value because of its various spectacular formations: a unique game of lights, shadows and colors.
When you visit the Caves of El Soplao, do not miss the chance to get to know their beautiful geomining and natural environment, which had its peak in the 19th century, when La Florida mining group was working here, in Sierra de Arnero.
The Caves of El Soplao are an excellent example of mining industrial archeology, with more than 20 km of galleries, and also an outdoor area that is rich in historical heritage: castilletes, furnaces of calcination, sinks, workshops, etc. In addition, given that they are located at the top of Sierra de Arnero, 540 m high, the views are stunning.
San Vicente de la Barquera
Located in the Natural Park of Oyambre, which offers beaches, cliffs, estuaries and marshes, San Vicente de la Barquera village is rich in historical heritage, because it has been inhabited since prehistory (the megalithic site of El Barcena is good proof of that). On the other hand, it was the Portus Vereasueca of the Romans, and it was also repopulated in the High Middle Ages.
Its strategic position for maritime trade and fishing has turned San Vicente de la Barquera into an important spot throughout history, and it is one of the most charming cities on the Cornice of Cantabria.
Some points of interest: Oyambre beach, Church of Santa MarĆa de los Ćngeles, Castillo del Rey, Puente de la Maza, La Barquera Sanctuary.
